In a sunlit workshop in Bhadohi, India's rug-weaving heartland, Master Weaver Prakash guides his skilled hands across a loom, continuing a tradition his grandfather began over sixty years ago. His story embodies the human artistry that distinguishes every Eastern Mills creation.
Prakash learned to tie his first knot at age twelve, sitting beside his father at the family loom. Today, at fifty-three, his expertise is evident in every piece he creates. His specialty is reproducing complex Persian and Mughal patterns, some requiring over 300 knots per square inch.
'Each rug carries a piece of my soul,' Prakash explains. 'When I work on a design, I think about the home it will grace, the feet that will walk upon it, the generations who might treasure it.'
Eastern Mills' partnership with Prakash's workshop extends beyond commerce. We've funded educational programs for his community's children and healthcare initiatives for artisan families, ensuring that this remarkable craft continues to provide sustainable livelihoods.
